Teaching on Country

Following a career working in the design and construction industry, in 2014 I retrained as a primary school teacher to work in remote Indigenous community schools. After visiting Mäpuru’s school and township over several years, I was determined to put my skills to use in a different context - mentoring local community teachers and supporting and empowering learners to develop confidence navigating life between two very different worlds.

I have developed tools and teaching practices specific to bicultural and bilingual classrooms in remote settings, connecting the student’s local context directly to their learning. I love working alongside local teachers and Elders to design and plan appropriate, relevant and developmentally challenging curriculum.

My years of life experience, communicating visually, problem solving, lateral design thinking, practical approach, cultural immersion and ‘learn for life’ attitude allows me to support students and mentor local adults in remote schools

My teaching qualifications:

  • Graduate Certificate TESOL | Macquarie University|2015

  • Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) - Distinction | RMIT | 2014
